MARINE COMBAT VETERAN

JEREMY LEE

Statement from Jeremy

My name is Jeremy Lee. I am a Marine combat veteran who proudly served during the Iraq War, including as part of one of the first units to breach the berm in 2003. Today, I’m a devoted father and a current applicant to the Indiana State Bar.

Of all the titles I’ve held—Marine, veteran, student—the most meaningful to me is “Dad.”

My fiancée, Hailey, and I are blessed beyond measure to be the parents of a remarkable little girl, Lilith Anne Lee. Her journey into this world was as unique as she is.

Both Hailey and I had previously been told by doctors that we could not have children. We had accepted that reality. But in January 2024, something changed—literally. Hailey felt movement in her stomach, and after rushing to the doctor, we found out she was already seven months pregnant.

It was what’s known as a cryptic pregnancy, where traditional signs of pregnancy never appeared. Just three and a half weeks later, on February 29, 2024—yes, a Leap Day—our baby girl, Lilith, was born prematurely.

Despite a low birthweight and early challenges, Hailey’s unwavering dedication as a mother carried Lilith through those first critical weeks. Hailey breastfed exclusively, even against difficult odds and advice to switch to formula. Her love and perseverance were nothing short of heroic.

For the first six months, Lilith was thriving. But at a routine checkup, her doctor noticed that her eyes were wandering. After further evaluation, just two weeks ago, we received the diagnosis:

Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA)—a rare genetic eye disorder that causes severe vision loss in infancy.

LCA affects about 1 in 40,000 children. While the diagnosis was difficult, we are grateful for the incredible support we've received. Thanks to referrals and services from Riley Hospital and other VIP programs, Lilith now has a robust care schedule:

  • Weekly occupational therapy

  • Twice-monthly mobility specialist visits

  • Biweekly physical therapy Regular sessions with a visually impaired preschool teacher

  • And now, musical therapy

At only 15 months old, Lilith has a full calendar—and a full heart. She is resilient, strong, and filled with joy.

As someone who once stood ready to sacrifice everything for my country, I now pour that same resolve and love into fighting for my daughter’s future.

Thank you for taking the time to hear Lilith’s story. We are deeply grateful for any support, resources, or guidance you can offer to help our daughter thrive.

With gratitude,

Jeremy Lee
