My name is Cody Cecil, and I am a police officer with the City of Clayton, Ohio. I have been a police officer for 13 years, starting my career with the village of New Madison and working a short time with the village of Arcanum. I have been with the City of Clayton for the last 8 years. On October 26, 2023 at about 2:00 pm, we received a dispatch to attempt to locate a wanted subject from Middletown. Myself and another officer arrived on scene and observed the suspect in the front yard. After seeing us pull in, the suspect ran into the house and we chased after him. He was able to get to an upstairs bedroom where he leaned against the door trying to prevent us from entering. I forced the bedroom door open and the suspect was waiting on the other side with an AR style rifle shouldered and aimed at me. The suspect opened fire, striking me on my right index finger, my right forearm, grazing the inside of my right bicep and once in the vest. Half of my finger was amputated, the ulna bone in my forearm was destroyed and a bone graft was placed. Recovery has been slow but progressively getting better. I will be having another surgery in late January to early February for another bone graft because the original one has failed.
